Brain Booster Camp is designed for students with mild to moderate learning and developmental issues ages 5-10 years of age.
The camp runs for 4 weeks and provides intensive individualized therapy targeting all areas of development. Children begin the camp with individual standardized evaluations and observations from a Speech Language Pathologist, and Occupational and Physical Therapists.
After the students needs have been determined an individualized intensive learning program is put together to target the goals and objectives that will be addressed at Camp. Parent input obtained at registration is also used in goal development. The Camp features a small ratio of students to therapists (typically less than 7 students to 3 therapists/counselors). Each segment of the camp day is supervised by either a licensed OT, ST, PT or Learning Specialist. The day will begin with a sensory warm up to help lock in focus and attention for upcoming learning activities. Next, campers partake in a whole body learning program where physical activities are paired with verbalization and timing to increase learning, processing coordination and attention. Following this hour of activity children will work on integrating any retained primitive reflexes or will be set up with a therapeutic listening program, or vestibular development program depending on individual needs.
Gross motor skills as well as motor planning and sensory integration will also be addressed at this time. Campers will enjoy a social lunch time together with a camp counselor and then it’s back to learning again with an hour of speech therapy and social skills training. The day finishes up with an hour of reading/academic intervention based on the Lindamood Bell Approach and incorporating other successful multi-sensory teaching strategies.
Last year, every camper made noticeable gains and all parents were completely satisfied with the camp. At the completion of camp parents are brought in for a private meeting with camp staff to discuss progress, follow ups needed, home programs and more. This is a great way to continue the learning throughout the school year.
Here is what parents of previous campers said about Brain Booster Camp:
“The changes in my child were tremendous. I received a call from my child’s school this year and I was so worried that they were going to say something bad like last year. They asked me what I did this summer and I told them about your camp, they now want to see if you can come to my son’s school to work with the other children”
“My son made great progress and is thriving in his new class. At the end of last school year it was recommended that he start this school year with a shadow, but now thankfully that is not going to be necessary. He is functioning well in a typical classroom without any additional support.”
“Our boys made great progress, the training you provided to us at the end as well as the feedback were really helpful. We would like to come back next year” |
